The Ministry of Health has this Monday morning confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 212.The new cases which are all contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers were confirmed from 1,084 samples from the community and contacts tested for COVID-19 on Sunday.
“Results from samples tested on 24th May 2020 confirm 14 new COVID-19 cases. The total confirmed cases are now 212,” the Health Ministry announced today morning.
All the new cases which are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers, the Ministry said were all under quarantine at the time of test.
Meanwhile, 5 positive foreign truck drivers (all Tanzanians) were handed back to their country.
The daily confirmation of new results has raised fears that as long as regional countries especially Tanzania continue to take Coronavirus lightly, there is little hope bring the disease to a complete end in the near future.
Uganda remains in a partial lockdown with millions struggling to survive.
Government says it’s working with regional leaders to increase testing at the drivers’ point of origin to curb spread of the novel virus in Uganda.
Kampala also plans to transport the better part of its imports and exports via Lake Victoria, hence reducing reliance on truck drivers.
A total of 656 samples were tested for COVID-19 from the points of entry while 1,084 were from the community and contacts.
A total of 1,739 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Sunday.

Police and Uganda Red Cross society have rescued two pregnant women who got stuck in heavy mudslides caused by floods which ravaged the western district of Kasese. This was revealed in a statement by deputy spokesperson ACP Polly Namaye on Saturday afternoon.
In the operation, Namaye said teams managed to get out two pregnant women one identified as Martha Muhindo of Isango village in Kitholhu and another yet to be identified.
According to Police, the two were rushed to Bwera hospital where Martha later delivered a baby girl.

In the Friday mission, Police added that another man identified Monday Zephanous aged 32 years was also rescued with serious injuries and rushed to Ikobero heath center for treatment.
Namaye further said the law enforcement body is still on ground to recover, rescue and offer help to the affected victims.
“Uganda Police Force working jointly with civil society organizations and other security agencies have teamed up in a mission to rescue and offer relief to victims of mudslides and floods due to the increasing volumes of water in river Thako and river Lubiriha in Bwera in Kasese district.” She said
Earlier this week, 6 people were reported missing including four (4) members of one family whose house was washed away by the mudslides.
Amongst them, five people have not been recovered but only one body has been found
Those still missing have been identified as: Kabugho Evangiline, Masika Lawrentina, Masika Agnes, Muzumbo Yubu and Mbusa Kyakere
The one whose body was recovered yesterday has been identified as Biira Ferestus of Bughabirwa in Kitholhu Sub county.
These were reportedly swept away on Wednesday night by debris caused by the heavy down power that broke the banks of river Ihubiriha hence sweeping away a bridge connecting Uganda and DRC at Mpondwe border.

22nd May 2020 at 9:38 pm in reply to: Kizza Besigye is the Real Mole in Uganda Opposition Politics #860
Col Kizza Besigye’s aide Sam Mugumya who has been incarcerated in Ndolo Prison in Democratic Republic of Congo- DRC for close to a decade is among the 147 inmates who tested positive for deadly Coronavirus.Mugumya was tested Tuesday by health officials.
According to a source in Ndolo Prison where Mugumya has been serving for almost 5 years, said Mugumya is now in quarantine in the same facility but the challenge is congestion of patients.
“The isolation cell is supposed to accommodate 40 patients. But they are 147 as of now,” a source said.
No official in Ndolo Prison was willing to discuss Mugumya’s health status by press time.
DRC has since confirmed 1834 cases of Coronavirus, 302 have recovered and 61 died.
Reports emerging from DRC have indicated that overcrowding prisons is ‘ticking time-bomb’ for COVID-19 pandemic.
“DRC’s main prisons are filled at 432 percent on average, making them some of the most overcrowded in the world,” reports Aljazeera.com.
for example, Muzenze prison in Goma was built for 150 prisoners but contains more than 2000 inmates.
Ugandan legislators have asked the government to negotiate the extradition of Ugandans stuck in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) prisons following the outbreak of coronavirus.
Apparently 124 Ugandans have been held in Ndolo Prisons without being taken to Court.
The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga asked the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice to work out a plan on the matter in two weeks.
DRC has to date reportedly released 1,200 prisoners in a bid to decongest the prisons in the country.
Mugumya, an Opposition activist, was arrested in Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2014.
Mugumya, a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party member was arrested, together with Aggrey Kamukama, Steven Mugisha, Nathan Bright and Joseph Kamugisha.
Government then said they would not be extradited back to Uganda, accusing them of engaging in subversive activities having been found with dollars and sensitive documents.
State minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem Okello told Parliament then that due to lack of an extradition treaty between Uganda and Congo, the DR government declined to send him back and that he would stand trial.

Sand mining has resumed on the shores of Lake Victoria despite the recent presidential directive to the Minister of Water and Environment to clear all wetlands, riverbanks and lakeshores of encroachers. The mining site, at Buwaya-Nakiwogo in Wakiso District, is said to be owned by a businesswoman in Bugolobi, Kampala.
When the media visited the site yesterday, it found dredgers scooping sand to the shoreline and two excavators loading it on trucks.
Mr Matia Lwanga Bwanika, the district chairperson, said his engagement with the executive director of the National Environmental Management Authority (Nema), Dr Tom Okurut, revealed that he was aware of the mining.
“He told me they are aware of this group even in Mukono District but when they tried to involve the Nema police, they were unsuccessful. Now they are planning to involve the army but I don’t know when,” he said.
When contacted yesterday, Dr Okurut acknowledged the development and said he would address the public when he gets all the details.
“We are aware about the site. Some action is being taken and we will address the public on Monday [today],” he said.
Mr Bwanika said they had sought the intervention of Mr Noah Njuki, the Resident District Commissioner of Entebbe.
“He is also aware and said it involves big wigs in politics. I then requested him to give me company as head of security and he said he is going to first call the Minister for Security and we go there may be tomorrow (Monday),” Mr Bwanika said.
In an April 21 communication to the Minister of Water and Environment, President Museveni also ordered the expulsion of local leaders, specifically parish and sub-county chiefs, who do not take action against encroachers.
“They are conscious liars and must be removed,” Mr Museveni wrote.
The President also said removal of encroachers should extend to forested areas.
“I am, therefore, directing you to remove all people on the wetlands, shorelines, river banks and government forests except the historical ones in Busoga-Bukedi and Kigyezi that were misled by earlier governments,” he added.
Environmental experts say exploitation of the lake threatens the bionetworks, causing dire consequences.Dr Fulgencio Kayiso, the programme manager, research, documentation and strategic information at Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, said mining leads to the removal of channel substrate, re-suspension of streambed sediment, clearance of vegetation and stockpiling on the streambed.
Efforts
Other mining activities around Lake Victoria in Wakiso have been halted following the intervention of Mr Matia Lwanga Bwanika, the district chairperson. However, there still remains some activities at Zziba, Lugumba, Kayeri and Kitubulu areas. In March 2017, Mr Bwanika confronted Chinese miners who questioned his authority to halt their activities. Sand mining is also reported in Buikwe, Mukonoi and Mpigi.

The UPDF has confirmed a shooting incident on Sunday night in which one person was killed and another injured in Keen district. The shooting according to UPDF spokesman Brig Richard Karemire took place on Sunday at around 11pm.
A member of the Local Defense Unit is said to have opened fire in the night during a patrol to enforce the night curfew.
During the patrol, Karemire says forces came across a group of 12 people drinking alcohol in Kapkwot village, Kwan sub county.
“In the process of arresting them they drew out pangas and also pelted stones against the forces. Troops fired in the air but the group continued fighting back,” he said.
“One Mwanga Alfred who wanted to cut one of our soldiers was shot dead and his panga recovered as exhibit. Another one Denis Mashonga was shot and injured on the thigh.”
Over the course of the curfew enforcement ,there has been an increase in cases of clashing between the armed forces and civilians, some of which have turned out fatal.
The army blames these incidents on provocation of the armed officers by civilians.

Byamungu says around, 1300 kg of maize flour was sold at Shs 1.6 million by the suspects.

Uganda’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has risen to 114 after identifying 13 new cases on Friday.According to the Ministry of Health, all the new cases are truck drivers from the 2,421 samples tested on Friday May 8.
“Out of the 13 new cases, 7 are Kenyans, 4 are Ugandans while 2 are Tanzanians. Tracking them has commenced and the public will be informed accordingly,” says the Health Ministry in a tweet on Saturday morning.
The Ministry says also 740 community samples were on the same day tested and came out negative for COVID-19.
Uganda’s total number of recoveries remain 55.
Out of the total 114 confirmed cases in Uganda, almost half are not Ugandans.
Following the increased Covid-19 cases among truck drivers, the trade and transport national taskforce sub-committee resolved that drivers park in only gazetted places where they can be tracked while in transit in case their results, from samples taken at the border of entry, return positive.

Uganda’s security services are holding Simon Peter Odongo, a controversial operative with Internal Security Organisation (ISO).Odongo was arrested on Monday night after he tried to shoot UPDF soldiers on a night operation in a Kampala suburb.
“Odongo wanted to shoot UPDF soldiers on duty. The soldiers were following up on allegations related to malpractices in COVID-19 relief food distribution,” said a source who preferred anonymity to speak freely.
Odongo is said to have been in company of two other men who also tried to open fire at UPDF.
“The other two people and Odongo had illegal guns. Investigations have started,” the source observed.
Defence spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire was unable to comment on the development, saying, “No info; ISO is not under the Defence Ministry or UPDF.”
WHO IS ODONGO?
A divisive figure, Odongo hit to the limelight in 2018 in an expose.
Odongo shocked Uganda’s security establishment in 2018 when he claimed having hacked the operations of Thuraya, a UAE-based leading mobile satellite communications company, to obtain the recording of Gen Kale Kayihura’s conversation with former Police Flying Squad boss Herbert Muhangi about the assassination of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Odongo told the police-led security team investigating Kaweesi’s killing that Muhangi received a call via a satellite phone and facilitated a conference call whereby the caller, he and Kayihura could converse about the murder.
Odongo briefed the joint investigating committee that he had a window of “66 seconds” to obtain details of the entire 5-minute conversation during his hacking mission.
The ISO operative said he was only able to obtain “7 seconds” of the discussion which were pinning Kayihura and Muhangi in the murder.
Odongo’s audio claims Kayihura told Muhangi that “thank you” after the murder of Kaweesi.
In the “7 seconds”, Odongo said he was “lucky” to get the part that would incriminate Kayihura and Muhangi in Kaweesi’s murder.
This stunned some members of the joint committee who wondered how one would first of all have the ability to hack one of the most secure satellite phone networks in the world and also be lucky to get the part that incriminates the two senior police chiefs.
“It was a shock to most of us because we wondered whether he was a magician. Satellite phones are always secure because they don’t use masts. That’s why they are preferred by leaders of rebel movements such as Joseph Kony and terrorists. It’s hard to locate callers who use satellite phones,” said an official who attended the briefing sessions.
It was later established by the joint investigation committee that Odongo used modern software tools to concoct a voice of Gen Kayihura to implicate him in Kaweesi’s murder.
This revelation underscored the level of intrigue and unprofessionalism in Uganda’s intelligence organs.
Smear campaign
Officials told us on Wednesday morning that Odong is being investigated over other acts of indiscipline.
“He has been terrorizing and extorting the businesses people. We will get to the bottom of this matter,” said an investigative officer.
Odongo is also accused of running a smear campaign against the First Family by distributing content to a news site known as People’s Agency.
Odongo is a close associate of Alfred Idusso who is attached to ISO’s ICT team which has been accused of forgeries to implicate high ranking government officials, politicians and private businessmen in fictitious crimes.
A joint security agency operation has arrested Simon Peter Odongo, a renowned civilian hacker attached to the cybercrime unit of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO).
According to a source in security, Odongo was arrested on Monday night around his home near Kampala after he threatened to shoot at UPDF soldiers on duty.
The source says the UPDF soldiers were on Sunday following up some reports related to food distribution to vulnerable communities in Kampala amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Odongo who is said to have been in the company of two other people obstructed the soldiers and placed them at gunpoint.
According to the source, the soldiers who apparently did not want to cause a scene, withdrew from the area but immediately reported to their commander about an armed civilian who pulled a gun at them obstructing official duty.
On Monday night, joint security operatives led by police visited the area to investigate the reports. A search of Odongo’s home was mounted and 2 SMGs and a Pistol were recovered. One of the SMGs is said to be carried by his escort in Kampala while he moves with one SMG and a pistol.
The source says Odongo attempted to run away but took cover in a corridor upon hearing the sound of gunfire when a bullet was shot in space to halt his attempt to flee.
Cyber Crime Reports:
Our Reporter has it on good authority that security agencies had earlier picked reports about fake intelligence that Odongo presents to CEOs of government agencies and the business community and in turn extorts money from them in exchange for their freedom.
“He has been terrorising and extorting from the business community by pulling illegally acquired guns at innocent people. His 40 days are up,” an ISO operative told this reporter.
Odongo is also accused of hacking into systems and in turn extorts money in order not to make details of his victims public.
“He is a known hacker picked from the street by our boss. He was not within our ranks and he should not have been armed,” another ISO operative said.
ISO Staff Celebrate
“We were all sidelined and our duties were assigned those quacks who keep forging intelligence reports. Imagine the embarrassment Odongo has now caused by attempting to shoot at UPDF. If the soldiers did not exercise restraint, there would be a bloodbath,” an operative observed.
Asked why he thinks ISO should not work with civilians, the operative said: “Far from it, the nature of our work involves civilians, we handle internal security. But, we are trained to compartmentalize information and not to arm informers with SMGs. It was not correct to arm Odongo who was picked from the street.”
Other operatives who spoke to this news site upon learning that we had launched investigations into the arrest of Odongo decried low pay for regular staff yet others who were described as “street quacks” take home hefty salaries.
“Odongo is not an established staff. He is a civilian, and works as an asset but he is paid higher than even senior directors,” one operative revealed.
Asked what ‘asset’ means in ISO terms, the operative warned against being probed.
“Why do you want to know the meaning of our terms. Are you probing me? I have told you the problem. I cannot now behave like quack ISO operatives who reveal everything. They forge reports and leak their own fake reports to newspapers. I’m above that.”
Odongo is reportedly arrested at Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka as police undertakes further investigations into his alleged illegal activities.

As Pan Africanists endorse Madagascar’s herbal remedy for COVID-19, IMF rewards M7 with $491.5 for signing up to Gate’s vaccine.
Many African countries have turned Coronavirus into a money laundering scheme on expense of its citizens.
Justifying bogus exorbitant budgets and seeking international financial assistance.
Well, now that they have received IMF money, hope we gonna be let free as they share their loot once more. 🤔🙄uganda.uk.com
7th May 2020 at 3:19 pm in reply to: THE UGANDA REGIME HAS PRESSED CHARGES AGAINST HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE #782What kills a man begins as an appetite. The issue of “People Power leaning” Blogger, Ashburg Katto has divided public opinion with many saying, with or without his allegiance to Bobi Wine, food comes first. Here is my humble opinion. I have no problem with anybody who looks for survival in times like this. Ashburg was right. He was however wrong for opting to become the face of the handouts. I know Balaam. He is a calculative politician. Forget DJs and other people he donated to. Ashburg Katto is the biggest fish in his pond. He will hang him to dry.
I’ve personally stood by Ashburg during the time of his ‘kidnap’ which appeared stage managed.
The inner circle in People Power know about him.
For a Blogger who first blasted journalists for asking for food, he shocked many. Today, Ashburg is happy with a full belly. He has food. But it is disrespect to People Power and Our president Bobi Wine. Did he call Bobi Wine asking for food before running to Balaam? He has sold his soul for a few coins. His fans in Uganda and in the diaspora who have supported him are divided.
He is an embarrassment. Ashburg, you will choke on that food. Its sad. Bobi Wine will never forsake us. The rest will wear our red Berets but time is weeding out the snakes. That said, never underestimate the power of Sorry. Your apology awaits.uganda.uk.com

They are just putting their language to use and that is why you will never find parables in Kigezi.
They don’t have time to confuse the folk.
They say Bakiga are loud but what do you expect from people born and raised in mountains area where you have to amplify your voice to communicate with someone up or across the hills or call them mountains?
If airtime was charged according to how loud the caller is, Bakiga would be dead broke.
Bakiga are the most romantic people. They don’t waste time wooing and raising false expectations. They will tell you straight in the face, from the word go, that they love you. If you don’t love them then leave. If you expect a Mukiga to plead with you for a second chance, like Salvador, just know that is a dream.
Most Bakiga are disease resistant. You will hardly hear that there was a disease outbreak in Kigezi. The kids get one injection their entire lifetime – immunization. This is entirely because of a balanced diet. A kid wakes up to a plate of sweet potatoes with a mug of bushera . Three sips and the cup is done. There is no such word like “lack of appetite” in Kigezi.
We are the hardest working people. That is why every strong man is referred to as Kyakabale even if he is a Musoga.
Our ladies are very hard working too which other tribes misinterpret as being aggressive.
They reason logically. Why buy a bouquet of flowers when that money can equally buy a sack of Irish potatoes?
We are independent minded. You can’t expect a mukiga to be at your beck and call. That is why most of the “rebel MPs” are Bakiga.
We live a free life. No wonder there is nothing like Kigezi kingdom. The king would suffer because every Mukiga man is a king in his own home.
I am proud to be a MUKIGA are you? Then send it to every Mukiga you know and friends of Bakiga, right? Go ahead do not break the chain.uganda.uk.com
