It has become clear to the public, that Bobi Wine is a greedy and selfish individual driven by fame. Without any doubt, Bobi Wine and his clique have deliberately highjacked the National Unity Platform (NUP) party and personalised it.
Founders and former top leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party led by the former party president Moses Nkonge Kibalama have announced that they will be reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which they signed with the leadership of People Power Movement (PP) in last year.
On July 11th last year, Kibalama who represented NUP signed an MoU with the leadership of People Power who were represented by David Louis Rukirimana aka Rubongoya, the current NUP Secretary General.
This MOU led to Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine’s rise to the position of the party president because of Clause 1 of the MoU which states this: “The leadership of the People Power Movement, having fully obtained membership of the party shall contest for and if elected, take influential positions within the political party and hence forth steer it forward.”
In this MOU, People Power Movement pledged to support the individuals who are the former leaders in different positions for the term starting July, 2020 and these included; Paul Simbwa Kagombe—Senior Administrative Secretary, Winston Kigozi—Deputy Head of Policy and William Odinga Balikuddembe—Head of Research.
“Kibalama will always be recognized as the founder of NUP and shall become the head of Elders Advisory Board of the party,” the MoU adds in part.
Speaking to reporters in Kampala on Thursday this week, Kagombe said that the current NUP leadership diverted from the MoU and decided to side-line the former party leadership.
“The MoU has been grossly abused by Robert Kyagulanyi which not only curtails internal democratic processes of the party but has also denied Ugandans to realize the change they greatly wanted at the time when everyone thought true change was coming,” he said.
“NUP as a party has a constitution which we must all respect and perform all party activities and decisions basing on this guiding instrument; but it was neglected which creates a gap in the performance of the party.”
Although Clause 4 of the MoU gives the former NUP leaders (Kibalama, Kagombe, Kigozi and Odinga) mandate to remain influential in the affairs of the party, specifically being members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) by virtue of their position, Kagombe said this was eliminated by David Louis Rubongoya “who together with a certain clique of individuals have personalised the party.”
“There has been a deliberate move by the leadership of People Power movement to hijack the party by side lining the founders and washing away from the party constitution to create a vacuum for personal gains other than promoting the platform,” he said.
“By way of MoU signed, we realise selfishness, greed and lack of morals in persons who cannot honour their own memorandum, which brought them this far. As founders, we have already instructed our lawyers to steely the MoU and prepare for legal interpretation and possible ramifications in the bleach of this MoU,” he added.
